A Homegoing Celebration for Johnny E. Long of Eutaw, who passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 in Northport will be Twelve Noon Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Clarence Thomas Cemetery in Eutaw, Alabama. Reverend Joe Webb, Officiating. McInnis Mortuary of Eutaw entrusted with all arrangements.


Johnny, affectionately known as, “Balt,” was born on May 13, 1959 to the late Mrs. Dissie Allen Long and the late Mr. Howard Borden. Balt accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined First Baptist Church in Eutaw at an early age.


He graduated from Eutaw High School in 1977 and attend C.A. Fredd Technical College. Shortly after, he worked several jobs in West Alabama until the loss of his eyesight.


After becoming legally blind, Balt graduated from several programs offered by the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind at the E.H. Gentry Campus located in Talladega. He then completed a computer literacy class at the Tuscaloosa Regional Center in Tuscaloosa. He later worked with AIDB as a mentor with the Mentoring Program for the Blind.


In 2005, he founded the nonprofit, New Hope New Vision, Vision Impaired Support Group. The first chapter started in Greene County and now has grown to four additional chapters in Hale, Marengo, Pickens and Sumter Counties


Balt leaves to cherish and honor his memory; his daughter, Keshane M. Davis; four special children he raised as his own, Guillaume Threatts, Lance Threatts, Kandice Threatts, and Jeremy Slocumb; 13 sisters, Emma (Manderson) Spencer, Ola L. Lewis, Leola Nancy, Louise Gray Skipper, Dicie Gray, Susie Banks, Janie Gray, Georgia Scott, Lula Borden, Ruby Cox, Johnnie M. Borden, Renee Watford, and Julia (Robert) Jones; 12 brothers, Robert (Johnnie) Long, Elder (Susie) Borden, Robert (Bernice) Borden, Raymond McGuffie, Clyde Borden, Joseph (Rhonda) Borden, Jimmy Borden, Simmie Gray, Leo Gray, Demond Borden, Howard Borden, Pastor Alfred Borden, and L.J. (Jackie) Borden. Along with his grandchildren, two special friends; Frankie Robertson and Jan (Jack) McGee. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
